Subject Madars: Words From a Lover and an Admirer
By: Patrick Torres
A feeble kick
flip out into a bank is all I need to sit up straight and get focused in
order to witness a wallie off a pole.
Madars Apse skateboarding is like the cool kid you’ve always wanted to
be. In fact Madars fits that title
perfectly with his laid back style, happiness, and overall joy for whatever he
is doing. When I tell you Madars wallied
up the beginning of a hand rail and then proceeded to back smith that hand rail
I am not lying to you. That’s just the way Madars will make your jaw drop like
you just saw your new hero do the thing you’ve always wanted to do. He’s cool calm and collected on the
skateboard and off, paving the road on how to be a lovable guy. We watch next as a nose grind turns into a
massive nollie flip out and we all have decided simultaneously to give up
skateboarding because why try anymore?
It’s not just the fact that these tricks are difficult but instead how
Madars pulls them off looking as if he had just woken up. Nothing is lost in the transition from
everyday life to when Madars is on his skateboard, constantly pleasing others
and looking like he is having the time of his life.
Madars Apse was my favorite amateur skateboarder but he has now transitioned into my favorite professional skateboarding after turning pro simultaneously for Element and DC. Who does a crook pop over on a handrail that has a six foot pole at the very bottom of it? The answer is Madars Apse, the crazy goof who nearly misses the pole with a smile on his face. Being just as explosive as the first half the ending of this pro part makes me crave my board and the ability to skate with such style as Madars. I finished the part and all I want to do now is grab my board, call up the homies, grab a couple beers and shred anything we can find.

The fonz wasn’t as cool when compared to Madars Apse and his skateboard who as a team rip through
numerous countries wreaking havoc on all things skatable. Subject
Madars turns my favorite am into my favorite pro with a gnarly part that’ll
make you love this guy just that much more.
Madars reminds me to enjoy everything I am doing and make the best out
of every situation while also teaching me to always rip on and off the board. It’s like watching someone with their life
all together living your dream exactly how you want. (I can’t help but think
about all my favorite musicians partying it up, playing music they have created
for millions of people and it makes me strive to be better.)
So Madars decides to end his part not with a huge trick over some stairs or a big gap but with a feeble kick flip back lip on a bank. And my hands go up BECAUSE WHO DOES THAT? Now I am going to have to go through my life replaying the ender thinking about how I’ll never be able to do that. It’s just a little bit frustrating but hey, I guess that’s how he got to be my favorite pro. If the part wasn’t gnarly I wouldn’t be telling myself I suck.
